Faceless UGC: how to create user-generated content without showing your face
June 25, 2026 · Admin
UGC, user-generated content, is one of the most in-demand content formats for brands right now. Brands use it for paid ads, organic social, and product pages because it outperforms polished studio creative in feeds. It doesn't look like an ad. And a growing portion of it is produced by creators who never show their faces.
I want to be clear about what this actually means in practice, because most people encounter the idea and assume it won't work without a face in the video.
What faceless UGC is, specifically
UGC is video or photo content that looks like it was made by a real customer rather than a production studio. Faceless UGC is UGC where the creator doesn't appear on camera.
Instead of a talking head saying "I love this product," a faceless video shows the product in use from angles that don't include the creator's face. Close-up shots of a product being applied, assembled, or demonstrated. Hands only. Product against a styled background. Voiceover narration over footage.
Not every brand wants this format, some categories genuinely work better with a face. But tech products, home goods, supplements, beauty tools, and SaaS products are strong fits for faceless. The product's function is the visual, not the person using it.
Why brands pay for it
The economics are simple. Brands running paid ads need new creative constantly. Professional video production is expensive. UGC-style content consistently outperforms polished footage in feeds. Brands figured this out a few years ago and built entire sourcing systems around it.
Faceless UGC specifically appeals to brands because it's versatile. Content tied to a specific person's face and demographic is limited. Faceless content can be used across different markets and audience segments. It's also faster to source at scale.
What brands actually evaluate
Before you pitch, know what you're being evaluated on.
Content quality matters more than production equipment. Brands care whether the video holds attention and communicates product value. Good lighting, clear audio, and a confident voiceover matter far more than camera specs.
A portfolio. Even spec work counts. Make three to five sample videos for products you already own. Show them in your pitch, not after it.
Turnaround time. Brands need content quickly. A creator who delivers in 24 to 48 hours is worth more than one who takes a week.
Making the content
Product close-ups with voiceover are the core format. If you have the physical product, film it in use with your phone. Close-up shots of a product doing something don't require a face in frame and tend to perform well. Add a voiceover covering the key benefits and you have a complete video.
For digital products, SaaS, or anything you don't have physically, use stock footage paired with narration. Write a short review script, record or generate the audio, and use wavreel to pair stock footage with each section automatically. This format works well for software and app reviews.
Screen recordings with voiceover work for apps and software. Record the product in use, add narration explaining what's happening, add captions.
Finding clients
Start with products you already use. Reach out directly via email or Instagram DM with a short pitch and two or three sample videos.
Platforms like Billo, Minisocial, and JoinBrands connect brands with UGC creators and handle the brief, payment, and revision process. Good for building early income while you develop direct outreach.
Rates
Beginners typically charge $75 to $150 per video. Once you have consistent quality and a portfolio, $150 to $300 is standard. Experienced creators with track records of high-converting ad content charge $400 and up.
The structural advantage of faceless production: each video takes less time to make. Your effective hourly rate is higher than the per-video rate implies.
Tools
Your phone camera for product shots. A lavalier or USB mic for clean audio. ElevenLabs if you want an AI voice option. wavreel for assembling stock-footage-based UGC quickly. A basic tripod. That's the full list.
